The main story follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze (the protagonist of Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood) in 16th century Constantinople as he attempts to unlock the secret vault of Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad (the protagonist of the first game) using disc-like artifacts containing the latter's memories. The framing story is set in the 21st century and features the series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his Assassin ancestors to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The game was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows in November and December 2011. It is the fourth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and a direct sequel to 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Assassin's Creed: Revelations is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft.
